Please be advised that effective December 1, 2015, the City of Cape Coral will change the policy regarding utility account refunds on closed accounts.
- The City will only issue refunds equal to or greater than $25.00 unless specifically requested.
- The City will only refund the account holder; we will no longer issue refunds to the payer. If the refund is due to an overpayment on the account and the date of the overpayment is 12/01/15 or later, the refund will be issued to the account holder. For those refunds with an overpayment date prior to 12/01/2015, the refund will be issued to the payer.
This change only impacts closed accounts with a credit balance. This change is being done as overpayment refunds can take up to 3 hours of staff time to research who actually made the payment. Even then, the refund payment is often returned to the City which requires further research. To avoid overpayments, please ensure the most current balance information by updating your payoff request just prior to closing.
